Des Moines Outdoor Wedding at Walnut Woods State Park

Dani and Branden had a dreamy outdoor fall wedding at Walnut Woods State Park in Des Moines, IA. They took a classic approach to a boho outdoor wedding with a lodge reception. Dani and Branden’s wedding party all wore classic black which was a perfect complement to the white florals and lush greenery that adorned the ceremony space complete with pampas grass, funky rugs, and candles. It was a boho dream come true!

Dani could not have looked more perfect in her chic Alyssa Kristin dress and Kendra Scott earrings. Her bridal look perfectly complemented her cool and classy demeanor all day. The day started rainy which was unexpected from the forecast, but gave a cozy vibe while D & B got ready separately in their home. Once they were both ready, Dani walked down their staircase to meet Branden in the living room for their first look. It was a sweet and tender moment between just the two of them and their pup, Paisley.

They said their vows at Walnut Woods State Park Lodge with an outdoor ceremony. Dani’s grandpa married them and they wrote their own vows. They both talked about how when they met in high school and were experiencing those beginning butterflies, they never expected to find themselves here, years later, saying “I Do” and committing their lives to one another. They clearly are meant for each other. They’re so natural and fall together just perfectly. They needed basically no direction because they were just excited to cuddle, kiss, and soak in their wedding day together connected as one.

After their vows, they snuck off to take some portraits with their wedding party and then just the two of them. The wind kept blowing the trees, causing leaves to float down and it felt like the most magical fall experience for their wedding day!! These moments and wedding days in general just make me so happy and grateful that I get to spend these days as my job with the most amazing couples.

They ended their night by having a DELICIOUS dinner by Great Caterers of Iowa and an incredible dessert table from HyVee that I took way too many photos of because it was drool worthy. They then danced outside with twinkle lights and wine to fuel the night.

Their day was the perfect example of keeping things small and stress free. There was no elaborate timeline or a checkbox of traditions to complete for their day. Their day was completely focused on them getting married and enjoy spending time with those closest to them. There’s something incredible and magical about being outdoors and spending time with your loved ones on your big day under a starry sky and twinkle lights. This kind of stuff just lights up my soul. If this sounds like what you’re going for - laidback, outdoors, intimate, I’m your gal because I absolutely love outdoor weddings and if you’re considering having one, I’d love to chat with you about photographing your big day!
